Video circulating from Iran shows pallbearers in black shouldering a flag‑draped coffin believed to be that of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as funeral prayers are held, while alternating wide shots depict vast crowds gathered at a major shrine complex.

Footage alternates between close views of the men carrying the Iranian flag‑covered casket and sweeping images of millions of mourners gathered under portraits and flags.

Officials and state media have characterised the turnout as a sign of national grief for the leader, calling him a “martyred” figure following his death in a strike.

State reports say more than 9 million visitors have attended Khamenei’s funeral ceremonies to date.

The coffin is scheduled to travel in a multi‑day procession through key Shia cities in neighbouring Iraq including Najaf and Karbala before final burial in Mashhad.

Khamenei was killed on February 28, 2026, in an airstrike attributed by Iranian officials to a US‑Israeli operation amid heightened regional conflict.

His death delayed the state funeral; large public ceremonies resumed in early July with extensive security and displays of public mourning in Tehran and other sites.
