Kidnap suspects holding retired Major General, Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, and his wife have released a video on Saturday showing the couple in captivity and setting out their demands.
In the video, circulated on social media and obtained by Dailyeconomy, Abubakar speaks for the abductors, appealing to local authorities to meet the group’s conditions for the couple’s release.
“We want three of our members released — Sani, Aminu and Nasiru and the return of livestock taken from us,” she says, according to the report.
She added that two of the detained men were arrested in Jikamshi and the third in Kano.
The retired general appears briefly and calls for efforts to secure peace, saying the abductors have expressed an interest in dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
“They told us they prefer dialogue; we ask leaders to help make that possible,” he says in the footage.
The couple were seized along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, near Zakin Baure village.
As of filing, neither the Katsina State Government nor security agencies had issued an official statement responding to the video.
