A 35-year-old man, identified as Andrea Russo, died after breaching security at Milan Bergamo Airport, Italy running onto the tarmac, and being pulled into the engine of a Volotea Airbus A319 preparing for takeoff.
The incident unfolded as the plane, carrying 154 passengers and six crew members, taxied for departure.
Witnesses called the scene “shocking and surreal,” with the man bypassing barriers to reach the runway.
Airport operations halted briefly, with the aircraft damaged and activities suspended for safety checks.
Authorities are investigating how Russo accessed the restricted area.
