Manchester United clinched their qualification for the 2026/27 Champions League with a pulsating 3-2 victory over rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils struck early and often, racing into a 2-0 lead inside 14 minutes.
Matheus Cunha opened the scoring in the 6th minute with a clinical finish, before Benjamin Šeško doubled the advantage eight minutes later, capitalising on a swift counter-attack.
Liverpool fought back fiercely in the second half, pulling one back through Dominik Szoboszlai’s deflected effort before Cody Gakpo leveled the scores with a header.
But United’s resilience shone through as teenage star Kobbie Mainoo rose highest to nod home the winner in the 77th minute, sending the home crowd into ecstasy.
The result marks United’s first league double over Liverpool since the 2015/16 season—a resounding statement in their campaign for top-tier European football.
Manager Carrick’s side now look ahead to a bright future in the Champions League.
