A massive fireball and towering column of black smoke erupted over Kyiv after overnight Russian strikes struck arms production facilities in the Ukrainian capital, footage and local officials showed Sunday.
Video circulating on social media captured intense orange flames and a vast dark smoke plume rising near apartment blocks and trees at dusk, a scene witnesses and local sources described as a “biblical fireball.”
The imagery appears to show an industrial blaze spreading rapidly across a complex consistent with weapons-manufacturing or storage facilities.
The blaze followed a large-scale Russian attack on the night of May 24, 2026, in which Moscow reported using hypersonic Oreshnik missiles and waves of drones to strike military-industrial targets across Ukraine.
Ukrainian authorities said the strikes focused on facilities in Kyiv linked to arms production and logistics.
Officials reported civilian casualties and significant infrastructure damage from the assault, while emergency services worked through the morning to contain the fire and treat the injured.
The attack came after Russian President Vladimir Putin said diplomatic statements are insufficient following a Ukrainian strike on a trade school in the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic and announced that the Ministry of Defence would deliver a response.
