The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has signaled heightened vigilance against body-packing drug traffickers as the festive season approaches.

The NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi in a post on Sunday, warned that smugglers are already active.

Babafemi wrote, “The Christmas rush has begun and humans have started laying eggs like chickens 🐓 again. Since they won’t learn, @ndlea_nigeria will never relent in nabbing them so they do their oblee behind bars.”

The post was accompanied by a video showing NDLEA personnel in a laboratory handling, testing with specialised equipment, and weighing batches of yellowish cylindrical pellets, the sealed packages commonly swallowed by drug mules, colloquially referred to as “eggs” in Nigerian trafficking circles.

Body packing, the practice of ingesting or concealing drug wraps inside the body for transport, remains a persistent method used by couriers moving cocaine, heroin and other substances through Nigerian airports and borders.

The NDLEA regularly intercepts such cases, particularly during periods of heightened travel and demand linked to the ember months and Christmas celebrations.

The warning comes as Nigeria’s anti-drug agency continues nationwide operations against various concealment techniques, from body packing to drugs hidden in consumer goods.
