The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 8.35 kilogrammes of Captagon, an amphetamine-type stimulant often described as the “Jihadi drug,” at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The consignment, allegedly imported by one Akinbile Kazeem Akins, was seized on August 22, 2026, after NDLEA operatives discovered the drug blocks concealed inside packages of Ghana black soap.

The illicit substance was reportedly destined for distribution in northern Nigeria.

NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed the seizure in a post on X, describing it as another indication of the relationship between illicit drug trafficking and violent crime.

“One of the latest seizures by @ndlea_nigeria officers is a consignment of the Jihadi drug, Captagon, concealed in Ghana black soap,” Babafemi wrote.

He added that Captagon is “an amphetamine type stimulant, which is heading to the North,” describing the interception as “a further confirmation of the strong nexus between illicit drugs and criminalities.”

Captagon, a stimulant substance, has been associated with use by fighters in some conflict zones, where it is believed to be consumed to suppress fatigue and sustain prolonged operations.

Babafemi said the seizure had deprived criminal elements of a substance that could be used either to generate funds for weapons or to fuel violent conduct.

“The seizure has again denied the criminal elements their needed fuel, either to raise money for weapons or to consume to increase their propensity for endless violence,” he said.

The NDLEA has repeatedly warned that drug trafficking and abuse can strengthen criminal networks, worsen insecurity and provide financial support for other forms of organised crime.
