Opposition parties in Nigeria have agreed to field one consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, aiming to challenge the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu.

The resolution, dubbed the “Ibadan Declaration,” was announced Saturday at a National Opposition Summit in Ibadan.

Key attendees included former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who chaired the event.

Factional PDP National Chairman Tanimu Turaki declared at the podium, “We shall work towards fielding one presidential candidate in 2027 elections which shall be agreed and supported by all participating opposition parties to rescue our nation and our long-suffering masses.”

The move seeks to unify PDP and ADC factions after the opposition’s 2023 split, though PDP internal crises could test the coalition.
