Prominent Nigerian activist and 2023 presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore turned up the heat on security agencies in a viral video, demanding immediate payment of a ₦30 million court-awarded damages from the Nigeria Police Force while revealing he’s “broke” and waiting on another ₦2.5 million from the Department of State Services (DSS).
The colourful outburst follows a February 20 Federal High Court ruling in Lagos, which ordered the police to pay Sowore ₦30 million for unlawfully declaring him “wanted” in October 2025 – a move the court deemed a rights violation.
The police have appealed the judgment but have yet to comply.
In a video clip, Sowore didn’t mince words, “The police have not paid me my ₦30 million and it is affecting me because I am broke; I need money. The DSS is also owing me 2.5 million since 2021 or 2022.”
Sowore, known for his #RevolutionNow protests and clashes with authorities, tied the DSS claim to a separate earlier case over prolonged detentions.
His blunt, humorous plea has ignited social media, with Nigerians mixing support for his accountability drive, jabs at government foot-dragging on court orders, and memes about funding his rumoured 2027 presidential run.
