Pope Leo XIV, the first American-born pontiff elected in 2025, pushed back against President Trump’s criticism of his Iran war position during a flight to Africa.
“I have no fear of the Trump administration or speaking out loudly of the message of the Gospel, which is what I believe I am here to do,” the Pope said.
He added, “We are not politicians but I do believe in the message of the Gospel, as a peacemaker.”
Trump, who called the Pope “not doing a very good job” and “very liberal,” accused him of being “weak on crime” and tolerating nuclear weapons for Iran, Dailyeconomy reports.
He also slammed the pontiff for criticizing U.S. actions against Venezuela.
