United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer has criticised Vladimir Putin’s inclusion on Donald Trump’s proposed “Board of Peace” for Gaza, calling it absurd given Russia’s brutal war in Ukraine.
“I have concerns about Putin being on a so-called Board of Peace.
“He is waging war on a European country. They are raining bombs down on Ukraine. People are putting tents in their living rooms to keep warm,” Starmer said at a Davos event.
The remarks came as the UK snubbed the board’s signing ceremony, objecting to its controversial lineup that also featured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Trump’s initiative aims to broker peace in Gaza amid the Israel-Hamas conflict, but Starmer’s intervention highlighted tensions over Putin’s role.
Social media replies to footage of Starmer’s comments exploded with accusations of hypocrisy.
Critics pointed to the UK’s support for Israel’s military actions in Gaza and Western reluctance to intervene in Russia’s past bombings in Syria, fueling debates on selective outrage in global conflicts.
Starmer’s stance underscores deepening rifts in international diplomacy, with the Ukraine war – now in its fourth year – casting a long shadow over peace efforts elsewhere.
