@dailyeconomy8 Video: ‘Tariffs on allies completely wrong,’ UK slams Trump amid Greenland tensions United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer has delivered a rebuke to United States President Donald Trump today, insisting that alliances like NATO thrive on “respect and partnership, not pressure.” Speaking at a Downing Street press conference, Starmer condemned Trump’s tariff threats against the UK as misguided, especially in light of London’s military deployment to Greenland. The dispute erupted after the UK sent forces to the Danish territory to monitor Russian activities in the Arctic. Trump, who has long eyed Greenland for US strategic interests, responded by threatening tariffs on the UK Denmark and others. “Alliances endure because they are built on respect, and partnership, not pressure,” Starmer said. He added, “That is why I say the use of tariffs against allies is completely wrong. It is not the right way to resolve differences within an alliance.” Starmer highlighted Denmark’s role as a “proud NATO member that has stood shoulder to shoulder with us, including at real human cost, in recent decades,” framing Trump’s approach as unhelpful and economically coercive. “Nor is it helpful to frame efforts to strengthen Greenland’s security as a justification for economic pressure,” he noted.
