Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off rally in Kaduna on Saturday, Tinubu said, “I hear my opponent talk about hunger and poverty. Who created it? They did. They created poverty; they created hunger.
“We are trying to eradicate it. We pay salaries regularly. Our governors are working.”
The remarks came as the ruling party formally launched its campaign for the 2027 general elections at the Kaduna Township Stadium (also referred to as Ranchers Bees Stadium).
The event drew governors, party leaders, and supporters from across the country.
Tinubu, who arrived earlier in the day with First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and was received by Vice President Kashim Shettima and Kaduna Governor Uba Sani, used the platform to seek a second term and promote continuity of his Renewed Hope agenda.
In the speech, the president also praised APC governors for development efforts and regular salary payments, and urged eligible voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the January 2027 polls.
The APC has held the presidency since 2015. Tinubu won the 2023 election and has pursued economic reforms including fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange unification.
These measures have been accompanied by high inflation and cost-of-living pressures that opposition parties have frequently highlighted.
