United States President Donald Trump has announced a plan to running for a “fourth term”.
Speaking last night during the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner, he said, “I’m pleased to announce my intention to, and this is somewhat of a scoop, my intention to run for a fourth term as president of the United States.”
He made the remarks while wearing a red “Trump 2028” cap, in a speech that mixed humor, criticism of the press, and repeated references to the 2020 election.
Trump also referenced his long-running claim about the 2020 vote, with reports noting that he again described the election as rigged.
The 22nd Amendment bars a president from being elected more than twice, so a third or fourth elected term would require a constitutional change.
That means Trump’s remarks were politically provocative, but not legally actionable as an actual term-limit plan under current U.S. law.
