United States President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States enjoys a “great relationship” with Iran.

In an interview, Trump stated that “Iran talks are going really well,” an assertion coming just weeks after a U.S.-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Iran ended a brief but intense 2026 conflict sparked by Tehran’s nuclear program advancements and disputes over Strait of Hormuz access.

The truce followed negotiations in Islamabad that produced mixed results, with diplomats securing a temporary halt to hostilities but failing to resolve core sticking points.

Unresolved issues persist, including U.S. sanctions on Iran, limits on uranium enrichment, and broader regional security concerns involving proxies in Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon.

Trump’s comments have drawn swift backlash from critics who pointed to Iran’s continued ballistic missile tests and support for groups like the Houthis as evidence of strained ties.

The ceasefire, announced in March, marked a fragile de-escalation after Iranian forces briefly disrupted shipping in the Hormuz Strait, raising global oil prices by 15%.
