United States President Donald Trump has criticised Iran’s economic state, asserting that the country faces unprecedented hyperinflation, a worthless currency, and the effective loss of its naval, air, and anti-aircraft capabilities.

“Iran’s economy is crashing. Their money is valueless. They’ve got inflation that nobody’s ever seen before. Do you think they’re doing well where they have no navy, air force, or anti-aircraft apparatus?” Trump stated while addressing the press.

The remarks come amid escalating tensions following the US-led naval blockade of Iranian ports and the Strait of Hormuz, launched in mid-April 2026.

The blockade was initiated after peace talks collapsed over Iran’s nuclear program, intensifying economic pressure on Tehran through restricted oil exports and maritime trade.
