United States President Donald Trump has vowed to annihilate Iran if they refuse to make a deal.
Trump who used his address to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday to present Iran with a stark choice: accept a deal that would allow the country to rebuild or face destruction.
“I have a big decision to make. Will a deal be made with Iran that lets them rebuild and create a far greater country than it ever was before? Or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic and do it quickly, never giving them a chance to kill and destroy people and countries again?
“Do I drive them into hell with no chance of survival and no hope of future greatness for generations?” Trump said.
He added that he believes a deal will still be reached “right after the election,” referring to the upcoming U.S. midterm elections in November, while insisting electoral considerations “don’t even enter my mind” when it comes to preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
The remarks came amid an ongoing military conflict between the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other that began with joint strikes in February 2026.
Trump has framed the campaign as necessary to stop Tehran’s nuclear program, its support for regional proxy groups, and attacks on commercial shipping.
In the speech he called on other nations to join the United States in enforcing “complete economic isolation” of Iran until it abandons those activities.
Iranian delegates largely walked out of the chamber during the address, leaving limited representation as Trump spoke.
The president also reiterated his long-standing position that Iran will “never” be allowed a nuclear weapon and portrayed the current conflict as settling “years of unfinished business.”
