United Kingdom Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, has dismissed warnings from US President Donald Trump that America would no longer come to Britain’s aid, vowing to prioritise national interests over external pressure in the escalating Iran conflict.

Speaking to reporters today, Starmer addressed Trump’s Truth Social post from yesterday, where the US leader signaled an end to support for the UK.

Pressed on the seriousness of the threat from the nation’s key ally, Starmer stood firm.

“Well, it’s very important that we’re clear there has been a good deal of pressure on me to change my position in relation to joining the war, and I’m not going to change my position on the war,” Starmer said.

He emphasised his resolve amid mounting calls to join military action in the Strait of Hormuz noting, “So whatever the pressure, whatever the noise, I’m the British Prime Minister and I have to act in our national interests.”

Starmer highlighted ongoing collaboration with Washington despite the rift.

“I should say that on defence, security, intelligence, we’re obviously working closely with the US as we always do. And in relation to planning of the Strait of Hormuz, of course it involves talking to Americans as well,” he noted, reiterating that Britain’s interests would guide his decisions through the conflict.
