American rapper, Onika Maraj, popularly known as Nicki Minaj, has disclosed that she featured Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, alias Davido, in her track ‘If It’s Okay’ to infuse the song with an authentic Afrobeats rhythm.
Nicki made this known while replying to a question from a netizen on X (formally Twitter).
The netizen identified as Tae wrote, “What drew you to Davido for the song ‘If it’s Okay’? In my opinion, he was an ideal choice for this incredible masterpiece! He was speaking that ish.”
Responding to Tae, Nicki wrote, “That man is an incredible writer & melody maker. It’s always a pleasure working with him b/c of our mutual respect for one another.
“I asked him to be apart of it in order to bring out the Afro beats tempo/feeling in it a bit more. Naija to the world.”
The track is part of the 10th-anniversary special edition of Nicki Minaj’s iconic album ‘The Pinkprint’, which was initially released in 2014.
However, the American rapper expressed her gratitude for collaborating with Davido.
In a heartfelt message, she thanked him for his contribution, which fans have praised as remarkable.
This collaboration comes after their successful partnership on the track ‘Holy Ground’ from Davido’s 2020 album, ‘A Better Time’.
