Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, has called on voters to return President Bola Tinubu to office, arguing that his first term was dedicated to difficult economic reforms that now require continuity.

In an interview shared on Monday, Alake could be heard stating, “This first term has been solely devoted to reforms. Nigerians must vote this president (Tinubu) back into office for consistency, for continuity, for consolidation. All the rating agencies, local and international, have judged the macroeconomic stability of all the policies of the government.”

The comments come as Tinubu’s administration approaches the end of its first term, with presidential elections due in 2027.

Since taking office in 2023, the government has pursued major policy shifts, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of the foreign exchange rate, measures officials say were necessary to stabilise public finances and avert deeper economic problems.

Alake’s reference to rating agencies aligns with recent assessments.

In October 2026, Fitch Ratings revised Nigeria’s outlook to positive while affirming its ‘B’ rating, pointing to ongoing reforms, stronger foreign exchange reserves, and signs of disinflation.
