The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed that the students, pupils and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area have not been released.
The Command in a statement signed on Friday by its Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ayanlade Olayinka enjoined the public to disregard circulating reports claiming otherwise.
“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the abducted students, pupils, and teachers in Orire Local Government Area are yet to be released, as intensive efforts by security agencies continue to ensure their safe rescue and the arrest of those responsible for the criminal act,” said the statement.
The command also moved to “debunk the rumour currently circulating that the victims have been rescued,” stressing that the spread of false information “only creates unnecessary panic, heightens tension, and diverts limited security resources that are critically needed for the ongoing operations.”
Members of the public were urged to remain calm, support the joint security team’s efforts, and “verify every piece of information before sharing it.”
The police added that verified updates will be provided as the situation develops and advised those seeking authentic information to contact the Police Public Relations Officer or the Command’s control room using the official numbers supplied.
The statement comes amid heightened concern in Orire LGA after the abduction, and follows intensified search and rescue operations by security agencies in the area.
