Manchester United has confirmed that Michael Carrick has signed a new contract to continue as the club’s head coach, posting the affectionate line “It’s Carrick, you know ❤️” alongside the announcement.

“We are delighted to announce Michael Carrick will continue as our head coach, having signed a new contract,” the club said on Friday.

Retained as a club legend and former interim manager, Carrick’s appointment signals Manchester United’s desire for continuity and a return to values forged during his playing days under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Fans largely greeted the news with optimism, urging the club and owners INEOS to back Carrick with significant signings so the team can challenge for major trophies next season.

Reacting to the announcement Carrick said, “Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride.

“Throughout the past five months, this group of players have shown they can reach the standards of resilience, togetherness and determination that we demand here.

“Now it’s time to move forward together again, with ambition and a clear sense of purpose. Man United and our incredible supporters deserve to be challenging for the biggest honours again.”
