Adeleke hails high turnout in Osun poll, urges vigilance

Osun State Governor and Accord Party governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke, has on Saturday praised what he described as a massive voter turnout in the August 15, 2026 governorship election, even as he called for sustained vigilance during result collation.

In a statement shared on election day, Adeleke commended security agencies for maintaining order across polling units and urged them to remain alert as results move from polling units to wards and local government areas.

He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to uphold “the highest standards of integrity” throughout the process, while noting that the federal government had provided “adequate security” for the exercise.

He wrote, “Against all odds, the people of Osun State have turned out in large numbers and are speaking with one voice.

“The safety and protection of our people is paramount. I commend the security agencies deployed for this election and urge them to remain vigilant as we move into the collation of results; from polling units to wards to local government areas. I also call on INEC to uphold the highest standards of integrity throughout this process.

“The federal government has provided adequate security, and I am confident in the professionalism of all institutions involved.

“Democracy is at its strongest when we honor the wishes of our people and protect the sanctity of their votes. To every Osun citizen: I urge you to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and committed to this democratic moment. Let the people’s will prevail.”

Reports from Osogbo, Ilesa and other areas indicated early voter queues and a heavy security presence, with the Nigeria Police Force deploying thousands of officers across the state’s 3,763 polling units.

INEC began uploading polling-unit results to its IReV portal in the afternoon, with several hundred units uploaded by late afternoon as collation continued across the 30 local government areas.
