NEMA distributes relief materials to Lagos Island flood, windstorm victims

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief materials to residents affected by recent flood and windstorm disasters in Lagos Island Federal Constituency II.
The direct distribution exercise was according to a statement obtained from NEMA held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Eko Akete Grammar School on Campbell Street, Lagos Island.
It was facilitated by the Member representing Lagos Island Constituency II in the House of Representatives, Kayode Moshood Akiolu.
NEMA said the intervention was designed to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to households whose homes, businesses and livelihoods were damaged by the disasters.
“The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Lagos Operations Office, has distributed relief materials to residents affected by recent flood and windstorm disasters in Lagos Island Federal Constituency II,” the agency said.
Speaking during the exercise, NEMA’s representative conveyed the sympathy of the agency’s Director-General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, to the affected residents.
The representative also assured the victims of the Federal Government’s continued concern and commitment to supporting communities affected by disasters.
The distribution was conducted in collaboration with the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the local government council, security agencies and community leaders.
According to NEMA, the collaboration ensured that the exercise was conducted in a “peaceful, orderly and transparent manner,” with the relief items delivered directly to verified beneficiaries.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and NEMA, describing the intervention as valuable support following the losses they suffered in the flood and windstorm incidents.
NEMA reaffirmed its commitment to providing timely humanitarian assistance to disaster-affected persons and strengthening coordinated emergency response with relevant stakeholders across the country.
