Arsenal have produced a commanding 3-0 victory over Manchester City to win the 2026 FA Community Shield at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Sunday, 16 August.

Arsenal opened the scoring inside the first minute when Riccardo Calafiori finished from close range after just 23–24 seconds, the fastest goal in Community Shield history.

Kai Havertz doubled the lead in the 28th minute, heading home from a well-worked move that involved Martin Ødegaard and wide play down Arsenal’s right.

Ødegaard made it 3-0 early in the second half (48’), calmly slotting past City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma after weaving through the defence to cap a polished team display.

Arsenal dictated tempo and territory, limiting City to few clear chances despite the visitors enjoying more possession.

The result handed new Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca a defeat in his first competitive match in charge following Pep Guardiola’s departure, with City’s attack—including Erling Haaland largely neutralised.

The Community Shield served as the traditional season curtain-raiser, pitting the 2025–26 Premier League champions (Arsenal) against FA Cup winners (Manchester City).

Arsenal’s triumph marked their first Community Shield win since beating City on penalties in 2023, and their first appearance in the fixture as defending league champions since 2004.

While the Shield does not count toward the Premier League table, the manner of the win sent an early statement from Mikel Arteta’s side as title favourites ahead of the 2026–27 campaign.
