Afrobeat singer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy has denied ever receiving a land gift or any money from the former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.
In a recent post, he challenged claims of such gifts and stated that no politician has ever given him anything.
This comes amid ongoing protests against economic hardship in the country, where some fans had urged him to participate. Burna Boy emphasised that he does not want to be involved in political matters and distanced himself from any affiliations with politicians.
Nigerians on Thursday, August 1, 2024, started protesting bad governance and the hike in food prices across the country.
Reacting on his X (formally Twitter) account on Thursday, Burna Boy said that the fight in him for protest died on October 20, 2020, during the EndSARS protest.
He wrote while quoting a tweet he posted on October 20, 2020, “The fight in me Died on this day. Ogun go doggy anybody wey calls my name this time around.”
However, in a separate post, he stated that he has never accepted any gifts from politicians after being accused by netizens of not participating in the protest due to his relationship with politicians in power.
On Saturday, March 27, 2021, former governor Wike announced that he would be giving a plot of land and cash to Burna Boy as an appreciation for winning the Grammy Awards.
Burna Boy in a post on Thursday evening declared that, “No politician has ever given anything. Go ask Wike where the land him give me or which money he give me. You think I’m your faves.”
Dailyeconomy on Sunday, July 7, 2024, reported that Burnaboy denied using songwriters, stressing that the names he has been crediting on his songs are names of producers and feature artists, not songwriters’ names.
