Real Madrid confirmed on Monday that captain Dani Carvajal will leave the club at the conclusion of the current season, bringing “a wonderful chapter” to an end for one of the club’s longest-serving players.

“Real Madrid C.F. and our captain Dani Carvajal have agreed to bring an end to a wonderful chapter as a player of our club at the conclusion of the current season,” the club said in a statement on Monday, paying tribute to Carvajal’s 23 years with the club — 10 in the academy and 13 in the first team.

The statement highlighted Carvajal’s extraordinary trophy haul with Real Madrid: 27 titles including six European Cups, six Club World Cups, five European Super Cups, four La Liga championships, two Copa del Rey trophies, and four Spanish Super Cups.

It noted that Carvajal is “one of the five players in football history to have won 6 European Cups” and that he has played 450 matches for the club, scoring 14 goals.

Individually, the club recalled Carvajal’s recent accolades: inclusion in the FIFPro 2024 World XI, winning The Best FIFA Men’s World XI award in 2024, and being named Best Player of the 2024 Champions League final — a match in which he also scored.

Carvajal’s international career was also recognised.

“With the Spain national team, he has played 51 matches, winning the Euro 2024 and the Nations League in 2023,” Real Madrid said.

President Florentino Pérez paid personal tribute to the captain’s legacy.

“Dani Carvajal is a legend and a symbol of Real Madrid and its academy,” Pérez said.

“His image alongside our beloved and remembered Alfredo Di Stéfano laying the first stone of Ciudad Real Madrid will forever remain in the hearts of all madridistas and in the history of our club. Carvajal has always exemplified the values of Real Madrid. This is and will always be his home.”

Real Madrid added that the Santiago Bernabéu will pay tribute to Carvajal this Saturday during the club’s final La Liga match of the season, and the club wished him and his family “all the best in this new chapter of his life.”
