The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) has unveiled two educational publications aimed at introducing children and teenagers to insurance in a simple, engaging, and creative way as part of activities marking the opening of the second edition of its Insurance Week, which commenced on Monday.

The books — My First Insurance Book: A–Z Fun and Colouring and Insurance Playbook for Pre-teens, and Teens (Ages 11–16): Learning Through Fun — were presented by the President/Chairman of Council of CIIN, Mrs. Yetunde Ilori.

The publications are designed to promote financial literacy and insurance awareness among young Nigerians by simplifying complex concepts through storytelling, illustrations, colouring activities, cartoons, puzzles, and interactive learning tools. They aim to make insurance more relatable and enjoyable for children and adolescents while instilling foundational values such as responsibility, risk awareness, protection, and planning.

Speaking on the initiative, Ilori described the books as a creative and timely intervention to ensure that financial literacy is no longer limited to adults, stressing the importance of equipping young people early with the knowledge needed to make informed financial decisions.

She noted that insurance plays a critical role in financial protection and economic stability, adding that early exposure will help nurture a generation that understands the value of preparedness and risk management.

According to CIIN, the initiative aligns with its broader strategic objective of deepening insurance penetration in Nigeria by building awareness from the grassroots level. The institute believes that today’s informed children and teenagers will become tomorrow’s responsible policyholders and industry leaders.

As part of Insurance Week activities, copies of the books were distributed to schools, where pupils and students were introduced to insurance concepts tailored to their age groups. Teachers and stakeholders observed enthusiastic engagement from learners, describing the materials as both educational and entertaining.
CIIN expressed optimism that the initiative will inspire curiosity, strengthen financial literacy, and foster a lifelong appreciation of insurance among young Nigerians.
