Evra hails Mount-Mainoo link-up after impressive performance against Brighton

Manchester United legend, Patrice Evra has heaped praise on Mason Mount after Manchester United’s victory over Brighton.

In a podcast, Evra singled out the attacking midfielder’s link-up play with Kobbie Mainoo as a defining feature of the performance.

“Mount really showed his class yesterday. I never knew his combination with Mainoo would be that good,” Evra said, reflecting on the movement, pressing and quick combinations that helped United impose themselves in midfield.

“The movement, the pressing, the quick combinations — they gave United so much more energy and control in midfield.”

Evra argued the display underlined a broader point about the current United squad: talent remains, but it needs the right structure and leadership to flourish.

“That performance also proves something important: there are still quality players inside this United squad, but they need the right structure and the right manager to bring the best out of them,” he said, singling out coach Michael Carrick for praise.

“Michael Carrick is starting to unlock players people had already written off,” Evra continued, before offering a note of cautious optimism about Mount’s future contribution.

“I just hope Mason Mount can finally stay fit because if he does, United are going to enjoy him a lot next season,” he added.
