The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has released data showing that the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) disbursed ₦3.18 trillion and ₦3.40 trillion to Nigeria’s three tiers of government in May and June 2026, respectively.
In a report shared on Friday, the NBS stated, “The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) disbursed ₦3.18 trillion and ₦3.40 trillion to the three tiers of government in May and June 2026, respectively.”
Infographics released alongside the announcement provide further breakdowns.
For the May 2026 disbursement (covering April 2026 revenue), the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) received ₦787.35 billion, states got ₦772.36 billion, and local government councils (LGCs) received ₦540.15 billion.
The June 2026 figures (from May 2026 revenue) showed the FGN allocated ₦818.68 billion, states ₦759.14 billion, and LGCs ₦534.28 billion. Additional amounts went to the 13% derivation fund for oil-producing states, infrastructure development funds, security-related interventions, and other statutory transfers.
These gross figures include statutory allocations, Value Added Tax (VAT) shares, and various deductions or special transfers before the net distributable revenue reaches the three tiers.
Reports on the June FAAC meeting indicated that the net amount shared from May 2026 revenue was approximately ₦2.30 trillion after costs of collection and other set-asides.
The Federation Account Allocation Committee meets monthly to distribute revenues collected into the Federation Account—primarily from oil and gas, company taxes, VAT, customs duties, and other federal sources among the Federal Government, the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and the 774 local government areas.
Established under the Allocation of Revenue (Federation Account, etc.) Act, FAAC is chaired by the Minister of Finance and includes state commissioners of finance and the Accountant-General of the Federation.
The constitutional and statutory formula generally allocates about 52.68% to the Federal Government, 26.72% to states, and 20.60% to local governments, with an additional 13% derivation principle applied to mineral revenues for oil-producing states.
NBS publishes the data provided by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation as part of its statutory reporting role.
Monthly FAAC inflows remain a critical source of funding for salaries, infrastructure, and public services, particularly for states and local governments with limited internally generated revenue.
The May and June 2026 figures form part of a broader upward trend in federation revenues observed in the first half of the year.
