The Federal Government will deepen talks with state governors and emergency responders to adopt 112 as Nigeria’s single national emergency number.

The was mentioned by Vice‑President Kashim Shettima after meeting NCC officials on Tuesday.

NCC Governing Board Chairman, Idris Olorunnimbe according to a statement on Thursday by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications, Office of the Vice‑President, said, “We need commitment at every level of all response agencies — from top to bottom.”

He urged police, ambulance services and NEMA to ensure calls reach the right responders.

The move follows NEC approval to establish a multi‑agency implementation committee led by the Office of the Vice‑President and the NCC.

The NCC has already set up about 35 Emergency Communications Centres nationwide, and the roadmap for full adoption will be coordinated with governors and funded through NEC and private sector support, Shettima said.
