Manchester City ground out a 1-0 victory over newly promoted Coventry City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday to maintain their perfect start to the 2026/27 Premier League season.

Erling Haaland scored the only goal of the game in the 26th minute, rising to head home a cross from Antoine Semenyo.

The strike marked the Norwegian’s third goal of the campaign and proved enough to see off a resilient Coventry side managed by Frank Lampard.

The match also marked the debuts of two of City’s big deadline-day signings.

Enzo Fernández, the £125 million arrival from Chelsea, was thrust into the starting lineup after Nico O’Reilly suffered a warm-up injury and delivered an energetic midfield display.

Iliman Ndiaye, signed from Everton, also started and made his first appearance in sky blue.

Under new head coach Enzo Maresca, City have now won all three of their opening Premier League matches.

The result lifts them to the top of the table with a maximum nine points from three games and a goal difference of +5.

Coventry, yet to score in the top flight this season, remain rooted near the bottom with zero points from three defeats.
