Como manager, Cesc Fàbregas has described Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Manchester United as a “dream come true” for his club, highlighting how far the Italian side has come in a short time.

Speaking ahead of the match at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, the former Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder said, “They are a great team. Just three years ago, when we were in Serie B, it would have been unthinkable that Manchester United might come to the Sinigaglia.

“Yet on Wednesday, that is exactly what will happen. For us, it’s a dream come true, we’ll take our chances.”

Como’s rapid rise under Fàbregas has been one of the more striking stories in European football.

The Spaniard joined the club as a player in 2022 when they were in Serie B.

After retiring, he moved into coaching and helped guide them back to Serie A in 2024.

The side has since climbed further, securing a place in the Champions League league phase for the first time in the club’s history.

United travel to the lakeside stadium for a league-phase fixture, with both teams sitting on three points from their opening two matches.

Fàbregas has repeatedly stressed that Serie A remains the priority for his “new” club, while acknowledging the scale of the occasion against one of Europe’s most storied sides.

The match is scheduled for Wednesday evening at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.
