Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) have arrested more than 15 people near the Jibowu railway corridor for allegedly collecting used disposable plastics and plates from refuse bins and reselling them to food vendors.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab revealed this in a statement on Tuesday.
A clip shows officials in neon KAI uniforms patrolling trash‑strewn railway tracks, detaining suspects and loading them into a truck as part of the enforcement action.
Wahab wrote, “Earlier today, operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) apprehended over 15 suspected environmental offenders around the Jibowu railway corridor for allegedly collecting and reselling used disposable plastics and plates recovered from refuse bins to food vendors. #ZeroToleranceLagos”
The operation forms part of the state government’s drive to curb unhygienic waste‑scavenging practices that risk public health, protect food safety and keep the city’s transport corridors clear.
