The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has commended volunteers from the Ratel Movement for their diligent efforts in clearing garbage from streets, gutters, and open areas in Alimosho during the monthly sanitation exercise.
In a post on social media, Wahab wrote, “Weldone guys. We appreciate you for the cleaning and immediate evacuation into the LAWMA intervention truck.
“A cleaner Lagos is our collective responsibility.”
He specifically praised the group’s swift coordination with LAWMA (Lagos Waste Management Authority) trucks to evacuate the collected waste on the spot.
The volunteers manually tackled large garbage piles, drawing community support that included gifts from a local church group.
The initiative, started by activist VeryDarkMan, underscores a growing emphasis on shared citizen responsibility for environmental cleanliness in Nigeria’s bustling commercial hub.
This clean-up aligns with ongoing efforts to maintain Lagos’s sanitation standards amid rapid urbanisation.
