LAWMA, International SOS sensitise sanitation workers on malaria prevention

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), in collaboration with International SOS, has sensitised sanitation workers on malaria prevention, symptoms, and proper treatment, while also distributing insecticide-treated nets to support their protection against mosquito bites.

Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, who spoke during the programme held at LAWMA’s Transfer Loading Station (TLS), Lagos Island, on Friday, said that the Authority had deemed it fit to partner health professionals from International SOS to enhance malaria prevention among sanitation workers.

A statement from the Director, Public Affairs, Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Mukaila Sanusi, today, said Gbadegesin joined the health professionals in cautioning participants against the use of unapproved herbal remedies and self-medication, advising them to seek professional medical care and use prescribed medications when treating malaria.

The Managing Director, who was represented by the Head of Street Sanitation Services, Mr. Olumide Mumuney, stated that the event was a confirmation of LAWMA’s commitment to the wellness and wellbeing of its workforce, especially frontline workers such as sanitation workers whose efforts were vital to environmental sustainability in the State.

Participants were also educated on practical preventive measures, including the use of protective clothing, maintaining clean surroundings, and eliminating stagnant water around homes and work areas to reduce mosquito breeding.

Dr. Gbadegesin commended International SOS for the collaboration and support, adding that LAWMA would continue to pursue strategic partnerships, health awareness programmes, and welfare-driven initiatives aimed at improving staff safety, productivity, and overall quality of life.

The initiative underscores LAWMA’s commitment to building a resilient workforce through preventive healthcare, continuous engagement, and sustained investment in frontline personnel.
