Manchester United cruise to 4-0 win over Sabah in Champions League return

Manchester United have marked their return to the UEFA Champions League with a dominant 4-0 victory over Azerbaijani side Sabah FK at Old Trafford on Thursday evening.
Goals from Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes, Benjamin Sesko and Lisandro Martinez sealed a comfortable start to the 2026/27 league phase.
Cunha opened the scoring in the 27th minute, Fernandes doubled the lead before half-time, Sesko made it 3-0 on the stroke of the interval, and Martinez added a fourth after the break.
The result ends a two-year absence from Europe’s elite competition for the Red Devils, who last featured in the 2023/24 group stage.
The match also represented United’s 300th appearance in the European Cup/Champions League, making them the first English club to reach that milestone.
Sabah, making their debut in the competition after navigating the qualifying rounds, struggled to contain the hosts once the first goal went in.
United will now turn their attention to the Premier League, with the Manchester derby against Manchester City looming this weekend.
