Manchester United has confirmed that six players will leave the club as free agents when their contracts expire later this month, the club announced on Wednesday.

The list includes high-profile names Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho alongside squad and academy players Sonny Aljofree, James Bailey and Malachi Sharpe.

Club visuals accompanying the announcement highlighted Casemiro in United colours as the club thanked departing players for their service.

The departures are part of a wider squad rebuild at Old Trafford as United look to reduce their wage bill and clear space ahead of a busy summer transfer window.

Releasing veterans and fringe players will give manager and recruitment staff greater flexibility to pursue targets and balance the squad.

In a statement, the club singled out Casemiro, Malacia and Sancho with individual thanks and the traditional farewell, “Once a Red, always a Red.”

Casemiro, who joined United amid high expectations drew particular praise from fans and the club for his leadership in midfield and a run of influential goals and performances during his time at Old Trafford.

Malacia received a more muted acknowledgement after an injury-hit spell that limited his impact.

Fan reaction to the Sancho decision was strongly critical on social media, with many supporters expressing disappointment that the winger’s Manchester United tenure will end without a transfer fee.

Commentators cited poor form, inconsistent output and off-field questions over attitude as factors that made his exit on a free transfer an especially unwelcome outcome for fans and sections of the club’s supporter base.

United now turn their focus fully to summer recruitment and restructuring, while preparations continue for the next season with a slimmer squad and fresh reinforcements expected in the weeks ahead.
