Marcus Rashford has moved to clarify that a recent Instagram story thanking several clubs and coaches was not intended as a criticism of Manchester United, and that he remains a United supporter.
The England forward, who is on loan at FC Barcelona, wrote on X to explain the post, “To make my IG story clear. It’s not a dig of any sort! I’m a MU supporter, and that remains. I was showing gratitude to the clubs and coaches that I have worked with over the past 18 months, they have played a big role in this 🏴 call-up.”
Rashford’s original Instagram story read, “Special thanks to Unai, Hansi, Thomas, Aston Villa, Barcelona & England for believing in me when things got tough.”
The message prompted debate on social media about whether the list of clubs and coaches implied a slight on Manchester United.
In his clarification, Rashford stressed positive intent amid his current association with Barcelona and the England squad, expressing gratitude to “the clubs and coaches I worked with over the past 18 months for their role in earning my latest England national team call-up.”
He emphasised that his support for Manchester United “remains.”
Rashford’s post comes as he prepares to represent England, and highlights the growing role of his recent club and national-team coaches in reviving his form.
