Mbappé backs Ballon d’Or return to Real Madrid

Real Madrid forward, Kylian Mbappé has said he believes this is a strong year for him to win the Ballon d’Or, but stressed that the award’s return to the Santiago Bernabéu would matter more to him and the club’s supporters.

Speaking to Diario AS, Mbappé said his performances on the pitch would determine whether he deserves the prestigious individual honour.

“Ballon d’Or? In my opinion, this is a good year to win it. My feet are my best advocates, more so than anything I might say,” he said.

However, the France captain insisted that his greatest wish was to see the trophy return to Real Madrid and its fans.

“The most important thing to me is that the Ballon d’Or returns to Real Madrid. It needs to come back to the Bernabéu, to the Madridistas, to return for all those people and give them something to be excited about. They deserve it more than anyone,” Mbappé added.

Mbappé also praised Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal, describing him as a highly talented player with a promising future.

“I think he’s a very talented player and I have a feeling he’s going to have a great career. I wish him all the best,” he said.
