Mbappé matches Ronaldo’s 86-goal Real Madrid start as Mourinho takes charge

Kylian Mbappé has matched Cristiano Ronaldo’s remarkable early scoring record at Real Madrid, with both forwards registering exactly 86 goals across all competitions in their first two seasons at the Spanish giants.

Mbappé reached the mark after scoring 44 goals in 2024–25 and 42 in 2025–26, equalling Ronaldo’s return of 33 goals in his debut campaign in 2009–10 and 53 in his second season.

The coincidence extends beyond the numbers. José Mourinho, who arrived at Real Madrid ahead of Ronaldo’s third season in 2010–11, is now set to oversee Mbappé as the French forward begins his own third campaign at the Bernabéu.

Ronaldo’s second season underlined the explosive start of his Madrid career, as he scored 53 times in all competitions during Mourinho’s first year in charge.

The Portuguese went on to become Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer, while Mbappé will now seek to turn his prolific opening two seasons into a similarly trophy-laden era.
