NMDPRA meets gas processors to tighten LPG, propane distribution standards

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has engaged gas processing companies in a move aimed at strengthening regulatory compliance and sustaining the nationwide distribution of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and propane.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Authority said the meeting brought together gas processors and other industry stakeholders to reinforce standards governing the processing, handling and distribution of LPG and propane.

“The Authority has engaged Gas Processing Companies in a meeting aimed at strengthening compliance with regulatory standards and ensuring the sustained distribution of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Propane across the country,” NMDPRA said.

According to the regulator, the engagement stressed the need for operators to uphold required standards in line with its statutory mandate, noting that compliance is essential to protecting consumers and supporting the domestic cooking gas market.

“Adherence to established standards is critical to ensuring the availability of safe, quality and reliable LPG for consumers nationwide,” the statement said.

The Authority added that stronger compliance would also support “the growth and development of the domestic LPG market.”

NMDPRA said the meeting created an avenue for regulators and industry operators to discuss operational challenges, improve collaboration and identify measures to boost the efficiency and reliability of LPG distribution across Nigeria.

It reaffirmed its commitment to regulation that would promote market stability, protect consumers and encourage sustainable investment in the midstream and downstream petroleum sector.

“The engagement underscores the Authority’s commitment to being Firm in Regulation, Fair in Conduct and Fast in Execution,” NMDPRA said, adding that it would continue to work with stakeholders to strengthen Nigeria’s LPG value chain.
