MTN Nigeria’s customer support has apologised to subscribers for a service disruption that hit parts of the country the previous day.
In a statement on Friday, the telecommunications firm wrote, “Yesterday, some of us experienced a service disruption that affected our ability to stay connected. We know how important it is to stay in touch with the people, businesses and moments that matter most. While our teams worked tirelessly to restore service as quickly as possible, we sincerely wish this disruption had not happened.”
It continued, “We are truly sorry for the inconvenience and grateful for the patience and understanding you showed during this time. Your trust means everything to us, and we remain committed to providing the reliable connection you deserve.”
On Thursday, 8 October 2026, MTN confirmed network challenges in parts of Lagos, Oyo, Rivers, Delta states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The company warned that voice, data and other services could be temporarily unavailable while engineers worked on restoration.
Subscribers reported outages lasting more than five hours in some areas, with some accounts putting the downtime at over eight hours for mobile and FibreX services.
Many complained of interrupted calls, failed transactions, and business losses.
MTN later announced that services had been restored and advised customers still experiencing issues to restart their devices.
The apology post drew dozens of replies from frustrated subscribers.
Some said an apology was insufficient and called for refunds, free data or other compensation for the hours of service they had already paid for.
Some threatened to switch networks, while others tagged the Nigerian Communications Commission.
