The National Insurance Commission has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, Rotimi Edu, describing him as a visionary leader whose contributions significantly shaped Nigeria’s insurance industry.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of NAICOM, Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, the commission said Edu’s passing was a huge loss to the insurance community and the country at large.

NAICOM noted that Edu, a former president of NCRIB, left an indelible mark on the insurance broking profession through his dedication, leadership and commitment to reforms within the industry.

The commission described the late insurance expert as “a towering figure in the insurance broking profession” whose tenure as NCRIB president was characterised by innovation, professionalism and progressive ideas aimed at advancing insurance practice in Nigeria.

According to the statement, Edu remained deeply committed to the growth of the insurance sector despite personal health challenges, adding that his passion for service and the development of the profession distinguished him among his peers.

“Barr. Edu was not only a towering figure in the insurance broking profession but also a visionary leader whose tenure as President of NCRIB left an indelible mark on the industry,” the statement read.

NAICOM further stated that the late insurance practitioner was “a man of uncommon intellect and boundless energy, a cauldron of ideas, and a passionate advocate for reform and innovation.”

The commission added that the vacuum created by his death would be greatly felt by his family, colleagues, the Quicklink team, NCRIB and the broader insurance industry.

Omosehin said Edu’s legacy of integrity, courage and progressive leadership would continue to inspire future generations of insurance professionals across the country.

The commission extended condolences to his family, friends, associates and the entire insurance industry, while praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
“We pray that Almighty God grants his loved ones the strength to bear this irreparable loss and that He receives Barr. Edu’s noble soul into eternal rest,” the statement added.
