NEMA distributes relief materials to Jigawa storm victims

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief materials to victims of recent rainstorm and windstorm incidents in three local government areas of Jigawa State.

The agency, in a statement on Friday, said the intervention was carried out in collaboration with the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in Babura, Birnin Kudu and Gwaram local government areas.

According to the statement, the distribution took place in Babura on September 8, 2026, while victims in Birnin Kudu and Gwaram received the items on September 9.

The relief materials, provided as part of the Federal Government’s response to disaster-affected communities, included rice, maize, beans, vegetable oil, seasoning cubes, tomato paste, blankets and wax prints.

Representatives of the Head of Operations, NEMA Kano Operations Office, urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items and warned them against selling or misusing the materials.

The representatives said the intervention was intended to “ease the immediate difficulties faced by affected families.”

The Executive Secretary of Jigawa SEMA appreciated NEMA for its timely intervention and continued support for the state’s disaster-management efforts.

He described NEMA as a “mother” to SEMA, commending the agency’s assistance through capacity building and the provision of material and human resources.

Chairmen of the affected local government areas also expressed gratitude and pledged continued collaboration with NEMA, SEMA and other stakeholders in disaster preparedness, response and post-disaster interventions.

The beneficiaries thanked the two emergency-management agencies, saying the relief items would help alleviate some of the challenges caused by the storms.
