Nigeria mourns Algeria crash victims

Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has extended condolences to Algeria over the deadly bus crash in Boumerdès Province that killed 27 people and injured more than 40 others.

The ministry said Nigeria stands in solidarity with the Algerian government and people as they mourn the tragedy.

The crash happened on July 31, 2026, when a passenger bus traveling from Sétif to Algiers veered off National Road No. 24 near El Karma and plunged into a ravine, prompting President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to declare three days of national mourning.

In a statement, Nigeria described the incident as “tragic” and expressed sympathy to the bereaved families and those injured.

“The Federal Republic of Nigeria extends its heartfelt condolences and solidarity to the Government and people of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria following the tragic road accident that occurred in Boumerdès Province on Friday, 31 July 2026, claiming the lives of 27 persons and leaving more than 40 others injured,” the statement read.

It added, “At this difficult time, Nigeria stands in solidarity with the Government and people of Algeria and shares in their grief over the painful loss of lives.”

The ministry also prayed for the “peaceful repose of the souls of the departed” and wished the injured a “speedy and full recovery.”
