Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged states to compete on investments, jobs and economic opportunities, saying the rivalry is key to Nigeria’s prosperity. He spoke on Monday in Asaba at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026.

This was obtained in a statement on Monday from the Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to The President on Media & Communications (Office of The Vice President).

He said, “This is the race we must welcome: a race that proclaims growth rather than conflict, a race in which the prize is employment, prosperity and human dignity.”

Tinubu’s reforms praised
Shettima linked the wave of investment summits across the country to President Bola Tinubu’s economic reset, saying it has given states more resources for development.

He also called for a shift from asset documentation to practical execution and job creation.

“The first is the stronger foundation laid by the economic reset of His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu. The second is that no state wishes to be trapped in the dilemma of having money but not knowing how to spend it,” he said.

Delta, investors and partners
The Vice President praised Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for creating what he called a platform that matches the ambition of Delta people.

He assured investors that the federal government is ready to support credible investments and remove obstacles to enterprise.

Tony Elumelu also said Delta is “ready for investment” and called for partnership in the power sector.
