NMDPRA seeks police support to tackle illegal petroleum activities

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has called for stronger collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force to improve regulatory compliance and enforcement in Niger State.
This was made known in a statement on Wednesday by the NMDPRA.
The State Coordinator of the NMDPRA in Niger, Engr. Musa Isyaku, made the call on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, at the command headquarters in Dutsen-kura, Minna.
Isyaku stressed the need for security support during the Authority’s inspection and enforcement operations against illegal and unlicensed petroleum operators.
“The Authority has called for stronger collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force to enhance regulatory compliance and enforcement across the petroleum industry in Niger State,” the statement said.
Isyaku also requested the assistance of the police in investigating cases involving individuals allegedly impersonating NMDPRA officials to extort petroleum marketers.
He further raised concerns over the alleged illegal production of NMDPRA identification cards and number plates.
The NMDPRA coordinator explained that the Authority is responsible for regulating Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum sectors, adding that effective enforcement would require close cooperation with security agencies.
Responding, CP Elleman assured the delegation of the command’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the NMDPRA, particularly in the areas of enforcement, inspection and protection of regulatory personnel.
He pledged adequate security support for legitimate NMDPRA operations and promised that the complaints raised during the meeting would receive appropriate investigative attention.
The engagement reaffirmed the commitment of both institutions to promoting regulatory compliance, protecting legitimate petroleum businesses and curbing illegal activities in Niger State’s petroleum sector.
