The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority has highlighted its efforts to attract up to $10 billion in private investment into Nigeria’s gas sector through the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund.

The Authority’s Chief Executive, Mallam Rabiu Umar, disclosed this during a high-level panel session at Gastech 2026, held in Bangkok, Thailand, from September 14 to 17.

Umar said the fund was established to provide seed capital and de-risk gas infrastructure projects, thereby encouraging greater participation by private investors.

He noted that the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund had already deployed significant seed capital as part of efforts to unlock investments in Nigeria’s gas value chain.

The NMDPRA used the global energy gathering to position Nigeria as a viable destination for investments in midstream and downstream gas operations.

According to the statement shared on Thursday, “The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority recorded a strong showing at Gastech 2026, the world’s largest gathering of energy leaders, investors and innovators.”

The Authority described Gastech as a strategic platform where major investment and capital allocation decisions for the global gas industry are shaped.

It said Nigeria’s participation was aimed at deepening global partnerships, attracting international capital and accelerating the development of gas infrastructure as the country seeks to reduce its reliance on oil.
