The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has welcomed the $800 million Final Investment Decision (FID) on the Ima Gas Project, describing it as a major milestone for Nigeria’s upstream gas industry.

This was made known in a statement signed by Andy Odeh, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Limited.

Leases (OMLs) 112 and 117, the project is being developed by AMNI International in partnership with TotalEnergies.

It is expected to produce approximately 300 million standard cubic feet of gas per day at peak production.

The gas will provide critical feedstock for Nigeria LNG Limited’s Train 7 expansion, which is designed to increase production capacity at the Bonny Island plant from 22 million tonnes per annum to 30 million tonnes per annum.

NNPC Ltd. said the FID was made possible by the Presidential Directives issued in 2024. The directives introduced fiscal incentives for non-associated gas projects, streamlined contracting procedures and reduced development costs.

Ima is the fourth major gas project to reach FID under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following the Iseni, Ubeta and HI gas projects.

Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, described the investment decision as “a decisive vote of confidence in Nigeria’s gas sector and in the bold reforms” that have helped create more competitive terms and a predictable investment environment.

NNPC Ltd. also commended the collaboration among AMNI International, TotalEnergies and Nigeria’s financial sector, describing the partnership as a model for future developments.

According to the national oil company, the combination of an indigenous operator, an international partner and domestic capital demonstrates a viable framework for unlocking further investment in Nigeria’s gas industry.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Federal Government, regulators and industry stakeholders to sustain investment in the sector and deploy Nigeria’s gas resources for industrialisation, job creation and long-term economic growth.
